Nissan Pathfinder Vs. Kia Sorento

By Justin Cupler | June 24th, 2019

Three-row crossovers like the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder and 2019 Kia Sorento offer you tons of in-cabin versatility, as they can haul up to seven passengers with all the seats up or carry all your tools to that home improvement project in Saginaw with the seats folded. Which of these three-row crossovers is best for you? Continue reading to find out.

Exterior

The Nissan Pathfinder has a rugged past as an off-road-ready SUV, but its more modern iteration is more comfortable carpooling to soccer practice than tackling trails. But that doesn’t mean it lost all its ruggedness, as it still boasts a more upright body than most others in the three-row crossover class. An extra wrinkle of style in the 2019 Pathfinder is its Rock Creek Edition models that add dark accents, special wheels, and unique interiors.

The 2019 Kia Sorento just went through a mild refresh, bringing in a fresher look that ups its curb appeal. This Korean crossover boasts a sleek design that suits its more upscale amenities nicely, especially as you move into the SX-Limited trim that includes tons of chrome and large wheels.

In terms of size, the 2019 Kia Sorento is significantly smaller than the Pathfinder, making it easier to toss around in city traffic.

  • Smaller footprint fits tight spaces easier

Interior

Inside, the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder has a simpler cabin layout with a predominantly black dash, a traditional four-spoke steering wheel, and a simple center stack. It may look simple, but there is plenty of tech behind it, including the standard 8-inch touchscreen, tri-zone climate control, six USB ports, six-speaker audio, and more. There are also plenty of options like power seats, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and more.

The Kia Sorento has a more modern cabin that includes creative use of rounded edges and wide surrounds to help visually widen the cabin. It also uses a more upscale-looking four-spoke steering wheel and has a few more desirable standard tech features, including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which the Pathfinder doesn’t offer, even as an option. But the Kia does have a 1-inch-smaller infotainment screen. At the top range of its lineup, the Sorento gets downright luxurious with its ample bright accents, premium Harman Kardon audio, Nappa leather, and more.

Performance

The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder rolls in with a single engine: a 3.5-liter V-6 with 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. This ships the Pathfinder to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds and helps it tow up to 6,000 pounds.

The 2019 Sorento offers two powertrain flavors. The standard powertrain pairs a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine to a six-speed automatic transmission for a 9.1-second 0-to-60 time and a 2,000-pound towing capacity. For those who need more power, there is a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V-6 engine that drops its sprint time to 7.4 seconds and boosts towing to 5,000 pounds with all-wheel drive.
